Boreal’s proprietary sequence enrichment methodology results in highly focused target DNA that moves in a well defined pattern as a result of the SCODA fields, and that does not diffuse over time. This provides Boreal’s engineers the unique opportunity to employ highly sensitive algorithms that exploit periodic motion to reliably detect small amounts of molecules against background fluorescence.
While sequence enrichment can provide the specificity required of nucleic acid testing, this proprietary phase-sensitive detection method can provide the required sensitivity, without the use of enzymatic amplification such as PCR. Furthermore, sample preparation and sequence detection can be integrated into a single cartridge.

With this technology, Boreal aims to enable simple, rapid, point of care nucleic acid testing for biodefense and clinical applications.
